Dear Sir,

This is an Appeal for a Humane way in Eradicating Rabies in our Province.

I would like to ask the Sanguniang Panlunsod and the Mayor of Maribojoc that the

present system of indiscrimnate killing of dogs through Shoot to Kill is not acceptable . Below is my Letter of Appeal to be officially submitted to Maribopjoc Municipal .

Please understand that I am not against the program of the prevention and eradication of Rabies , I applaud and support your program however I Do Not Agree with the system of Mass Killing of Dogs.

An APPEAL TO HUMANE WAY for the Prevention and Eradication Rabies Program

“Stop Mass Dog Killing ”

“Stop the Indiscriminate Shooting of Dogs .

“Stop Dragging their Dead Body on the Street”

This Cruel and Barbaric way Must be Stop . The indiscriminate mass killing

of dogs is ineffective as a rabies control measure .

This campaign of Shooting Dogs on sight is extraordinarily brutal, cold-blooded

and lazy way for the government to deal with epidemic disease.

The massive culling of the dog population, without an intensive vaccination

campaign of the survivors, will not arrest an outbreak

If the Municipal Government is serious about Eradicating Rabies

in the Province , they must stop charging exorbitant fee of 100 pesos for the

Immunization . It is the responsibility of the Government to initiate an immediate

Free massive mandatory immunization-cum-sterilization programmes especially

on low income families or barangays.

This is the Humane Way and the most sustainable method for slowing or halting the

spread of rabies.

Please I Appeal to the Municipal Government to reconsider and find a Humane

Alternative in eradicating rabies through animal control and immunization programs.

I think the best way to show one's love for a pet dog or any pet for that matter is to take care of the pet, ensure that it doesn't harm other people and immunize it. I'm not sure if it is more humane to let the dogs live that way they are living now and allow accidents to happen where people die of rabis or eliminate the stray dogs or dogs whose owners do not really care about them and avoid rabis infections. We probably need to quickly eliminate the problem and prevent it from getting out of hand in the future. The prevention can now be more humane… such as not allowing people to own pets if they don't have the resources to prevent them from causing harm to other people.

With limited budgets, a massive immunization program may not be feasible at this time. Or perhaps animal lovers should initiate fund raising in order to support a humane way of eradicating rabis? Maybe they organize a dog pound where the government personnel can endorse stray dogs and the animal lovers take care of them until they die naturally or new and capable owners take them home.
