The Bohol Chamber of Commerce and Industry {BCCI} commending the Armed Forces of the Philippines – 302nd Brigade in Bohol headed by Brig.Gen. Arnulfo C. Matanguihan and the Philippine National Police – Bohol headed by PS/Supt. Felipe R. Natividad, for their exemplary performance in maintaining general peace and order in the Island Province of Bohol. The BCCI gave them each a plaque of appreciation and sponsored a lunch a la Boodle Fight, as a military way of celebrating friendship and togetherness. Also gracing the event with his participation is PNP Regional Director PC/Supt. Jose Mario M. Espino, as a special guest of the boodle fight activity.

Two of Bohol’s tourism gems, Balicasag and Pamilacan Islands, now have power 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Gov. Edgar Chatto and Panglao Mayor Nila Montero led switch on ceremony for 24/7 power in Balicasag Island on Monday.
They were joined by NAPOCOR Department Manager Engr. Pete Llorente, BOHECO 1 General Manager Engr. Dino Roxas, Cong. Rene Relampagos represented here by Archie Lungay, 302nd IB Commander General Arnulfo Matanguihan, and Philippine Navy Col. Jorge Ibarra.
On Tuesday, Chatto and Pamilacan Brgy. Capt. Crispo Valeroso led switch-on ceremony for 24/7 power operations in Pamilacan Island.
They were joined by Baclayon Kagawad. Derwin Cuajao who represented Mayor Benny Uy, NAPOCOR department manager Engr. Pete Llorente, BOHECO 1 Engr. Mejorada Glenn Mejorada, Archie Lungay representing Cong. Rene Relampagos, and barangay officials of Pamilacan.
This kicks off 24/7 energization of Bohol Islands under the Small Power Utilities Group (SPUG) of NAPOCOR, a commitment of the Department of Energy under Sec. Al Cusi and NAPOCOR president Pio Benavidez.
Chatto lobbied for the round the clock power supply for the islands during the 34-country Asian Cooperation Dialogue on sustainable and reliable power in Bohol in August, where Cusi himself visited both islands. After which, Benavidez directed Llorente to implement 24-hour electrical service to the two islands.
When he was congressman of the first district, Chatto placed Cuaming and Hambongan in Inabanga; Mantata-o in Calape; Cabilao in Loon; Balicasag, Panglao; Pamilacan, Baclayon; and Bag-ong Banwa, Batasan, Bilanglangan, Mocaboc, Pangapasan, and Ubay in Tubigon under NAPOCOR-SPUG, the switch on for which was during his birthday, February 21, 2008 in Cabilao.
The incorporation of the twelve islands in the missionary electrification program of NPC-SPUG, entitled electricity consumers in the islands to financial support from the Universal Charge for Missionary Electrification (UC-ME) pursuant to R.A. 9136 or the Electric Power Industry Reform Act, commonly called the EPIRA Law, where the assistance to consumers shall come via NPC-SPUG’s sale of electricity at a subsidized rate.
This significantly brought electricity cost way below P25/kWh rate.
For residents of Balicasag and Pamilacan Islands, round the clock power is a fulfillment of a long-time dream, expressing their gratitude to Chatto and NAPOCOR team.
Chatto and NAPOCOR-SPUG officials are mapping out what islands to be fully energized next.
Llorente bared NAPOCOR-SPUG is eyeing the same for islands of Bilang-Bilangan Dako, Bilang-Bilangan Diot, Hingutanan East and Hingutanan West, Malingin, Maomawan, and Sagasa in Bien Unido as well as Cataban in Talibon for 2018.
The 24-hour power program in Bohol islands will be thru generators or solar power, or a mix of these technologies, seen to enhance economic productivity and growth and to improve living condition. (Leah/EDCOM)

DTI, TESDA PARTNER TO PROVIDE EMPLOYMENT, ENTREPRENEURSHIP SKILLS TRAINING. The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) agreed to boost the ongoing government efforts to spur employment and entrepreneurship for Filipinos. On 7 August, DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez signed a Memorandum of Agreement with TESDA Director General Guiling Mamondiong to formally launch the Skills Training for Employment/Entrepreneurship Program (STEEP), which aims to provide Filipinos necessary skills development on employment/ entrepreneurship that could help them improve economic status. Sec. Lopez reiterated the commitment of President Rodrigo Duterte to empower the bottom of the pyramid by bringing opportunities closer and accessible to the public. According to him, acquired business skills by trainees from STEEP can be used in effectively running their businesses in the future. TESDA Director General Mamondiong, meanwhile, noted that the cooperation is a manifestation of the willingness to pursue the aim towards a more comfortable life for every Filipino. The trade chief also highlighted that the agreement complements the government’s “Bangon Marawi” program, as well as DTI’s Trabaho at Negosyo agenda.

KUALA LUMPUR—As ASEAN celebrates its 50th founding anniversary, 2017 marks an opportune time to reflect on what ASEAN has achieved over the past five decades and what it seeks to accomplish ahead.
Speaking at the ASEAN@50 Conference in Kuala Lumpur on 4 August before an assembly of audience representing various stakeholders, ASEAN 2017 Economic Ministers chairman and Philippine Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez said that collaboration and communication are two essential elements to keep ASEAN moving.
“The region has to focus on two Cs, Collaboration and Communication. By engaging multi-stakeholders, ASEAN develops a win-win solution in ensuring that economic opportunities will be equitably felt by all ASEAN citizens,” he said.
Since its inception in 1967, the 10-member regional organization has transformed into a global economic powerhouse, with a population of 622 million and has become one of the world’s fastest growing investment destinations.
ASEAN’s total trade increased by USD 700 billion between 2007 and 2015, with intra-ASEAN trade comprising the largest share. In 2015, ASEAN attracted USD 121 billion of FDI with intra-ASEAN constituting the largest share of inflows. .
Sec. Lopez said that ASEAN should aim to communicate its programs and priorities to the ASEAN citizens, providing them with the right platform to know how they can contribute to the region’s growth story.
“Our communication must be sustained and intensified if we want to reap the benefits of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), working towards a deeper regional integration in 2025,” he added.
The trade chief made reference to the ASEAN 2025: Forging Ahead Together as a forward-looking roadmap to prepare the region in the next phase of evolvement, and which charts the pathway for strengthening the ASEAN Community over the next 10 years.
As one of the three pillars of the ASEAN Community, the AEC is a realization of ASEAN’s goal to have an integrated and prosperous economic region with a single market–where there is free movement of goods, services and investments.
“ASEAN’s continuing economic transformation remains an example of how regional integration and cooperation is plausible despite challenges and diversity in size, geography, political background, and culture,” the trade chief said.
AEC reflects connectedness and translates diversity into strength as ASEAN’s variety becomes a source of attraction to global investors, mindful of the region’s stake in open global markets.
According to Sec. Lopez, promoting complementation and cooperation is at the heart of ASEAN integration efforts. Closer trade and enhanced economic cooperation, combined with continued engagement with Dialogue Partners, provides the region with a solid platform to continuously bolster the region’s growth and promote complementation of domestic reforms among Member States.
ASEAN has also become a significant link to the international community because of the dynamism and the huge potential it offers to the world.
“We have engaged our major trading partners namely Australia, China, India, Japan, Korea, and New Zealand in free trade agreements, negotiating as a single ASEAN entity rather than as individual economies discussing bilateral trade arrangements,” Sec. Lopez added.
In 2013, ASEAN initiated negotiations for a Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), which aims to expand the current ASEAN market to a huge integrated market of 3.5 billion with its six Dialogue Partners China, Korea, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and India.
Sec. Lopez also took the opportunity to present the Philippine agenda as the current ASEAN chair. Under the inclusive, innovation-led growth theme, the country is poised to champion the development and internationalization of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) with key strategic measures to increase trade and investment, integrate MSMEs in global value chains and pursue an innovation-led economy.
“ASEAN continues to develop into a pivotal marketplace with its relatively young, growing labor force and emerging middle class,” he said, adding that ASEAN has transformed into a community of dramatic diversity and manifold opportunities.

The Philippine Trade Training Center (PTTC), the training arm of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), recently conducted a total of 23 free seminars geared towards enhancing MSME’s managerial and technological capabilities during SME Week held on July 18-19, 2017 at the PTTC grounds.
With the theme “Moving Towards Skilled, Market-Driven and Engaged MSMEs”, the two-day event was attended by about 367 MSMEs. After participating in the UREKA Forum, 24 signed up for Shopinas, an online store of Philippine products, and an additional 15 after attending the seminar on “Doing Business in E-marketplaces.”
This positive response from the MSMEs is an indication that by providing them free and easy access to information, entrepreneurs are ready and willing to digitize their business. As DTI Assistant Secretary Rosvi C. Gaetos emphasized in her opening remarks, “PTTC’s role and commitment in providing various training programs is to help MSMEs catapult into the global markets with the overarching goal of transforming them into global business entrepreneurs”.
Asst. Secretary Gaetos also said that MSMEs act as the nursery and breeding ground of entrepreneurship and innovation, significantly contributing to employment and livelihood which account to a major share of industrial growth in exports.
MSME participants from various industries who attended seminars and trainings during the two-day event at the PTTC in celebration of the SME Week Free Seminars held on July 18-19, 2017.

Earlier last week, Auza.Net accepted the challenge to bring Bohol’s favorite FM station Kiss 102.3 FM to the world via live audio streaming on the web. The company brings in the experience of implementing the DYRD-AM Worldwide broadcast for the last 9 years. The new website www.kiss102fmbohol.com will be officially launched on May 1, 2017. Test broadcast is currently on-going.
Mr. Jerome Auza of Auza.Net and Mr. Peter Dejaresco of Kiss 102.3 FM sealed the partnership and are both excited to finally stream the live broadcast of the FM station on it’s own website. On the roadmap is the implementation of a mobile app for the streaming service, as well as integration with social media sites.
Auza said that the project was implemented in record time in order to be available for the May 1 festivities during the Tagbilaran Fiesta. The on-the-job trainees of the Auza.Net assisted Auza in the implementation of the project. The setup involved using a virtual private server in Singapore and US to provide for the bandwidth needed to implement the online broadcast. The setup is very similar to one for DYRD-AM Worldwide broadcast.
