President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo met with US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and discussed on the on going peace process in Mindanao.
According to Press Secretary Jesus Dureza, President Arroyo informed Sec. Rice that the Philippine government is prepared to go back to the negotiating table with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).
This, however, as soon as positive results are gathered from the ongoing consultations with stakeholders and affected communities in Mindanao.
The President explained the new paradigm of her administration in pursuing the peace talks with the MILF based on more authentic consultations and not dictated by any armed group.
She also expressed gratitude for the continuing US assistance in the Mindanao peace process
Dureza was confident that the ongoing consultations with the stakeholders as mandated under the new paradigm might be completed very soon so that government can address the immediate needs of the displaced families and affected communities in the south. (PIA/Bohol)

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo recognized the important role local executives have in supporting the national government’s (NG) efforts to improve the lives of the people, especially the poor.
In her keynote address at the 18th League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) General Assembly, the President stressed that the local executives “play a big part” in ensuring food security, peace and security, better health and education for the people.

Matud pa ni Kalihim sa Prensa Jesus Dureza, si Presidente Arroyo mao ang ika-duhang mamumulong sa maong tigum, isip usa sa nag-unang nagpasi-ugda sa “interfaith dialogue”.
Pagahisgutan sa Presidente kon unsa ka importante ang maong dayalogo ug kooperasyon ayon makab-ot ang maluntarong kalinaw dili lang sa rehiyon sa asya, kon dili sa tibuok kalibutan.

Presidente Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo mao ang pangunang mamumulong sa Local Peace and Security Assemblies (LPSA) para sa Rehiyon III adto sa Subic. Mao kini ang ika-20 ka LPSA nga gihimo sa kagamhanan.
Ang maong tigum paga-tambungan sa mga opisyales sa lokal nga pamunuan ug mga nagkalain-laing sektor sa komunidad nga ang tumong ug tuyo mao ang pagila ug solusyon aron makab-ot ang kalinaw ug kaugmaran.
20 na LPSA ang gimugna, sugad nga gilusad kini sa Tagbilaran City, Bohol niadtong Agosto 2007, ang pinaka-unhang LPSA.
Ang lalawigan sa Bohol gidayeg sa Presidente sa nagkalain-laing kalihukan para sa kalinaw nga nakasumpo o naka-menos sa mga kalihukan sa komunistang NPA sa lalawigan.

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, together with 44 other leaders from Asia and Europe who participated in the 7th Asia-Europe Meeting in Beijing, China; adopted the “Beijing Declaration on Sustainable Development.”
The world leaders met to discuss measures that will strengthen further their partnership as well as issues of common interest.
This year’s summit was focused on the current financial crisis, food security, climate change and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
The Leaders, in adopting the Beijing Declaration, agreed that sustainable development is the solution to all these concerns. (PIA/Bohol)

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo thanked the country’s local government executives (LGEs) for leading by example and uniting against politicking to shield the poor and further secure the country from the effects of the current global crisis.
The president made this statement during the oath-taking of the officers of the Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines (ULAP).
With the latest impeachment case filed against her by the opposition, She also congratulated and thanked the local executives for their unified support, saying her administration will continue its food and social services programs to shield ordinary Filipinos from the global crisis.
Earlier, the League of Provinces of the Philippines (LPP) passed a resolution expressing its full support to the President and condemning the newly filed impeachment case.
The resolution also urged the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) and other civil society groups not to support the impeachment case. (PIA/Bohol)

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo signed today into law the Socialized and Low-Cost Housing Loan Restructuring and Condonation Act of 2008.
This is to give the underprivileged Filipinos the chances to save their homes from foreclosure thru a rational loan restructuring and condonation scheme.
Republic Act No. 9507 offers a rational loan restructuring and condonation program for the underprivileged Filipinos based on the credit worthiness and credit discipline of the borrowers and the financial viability of the lending institutions. (PIA/Bohol)

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo called on regional and world leaders to “unite and come up with a coordinated approach” in dealing with the financial crisis sweeping the world.
She cited the urgent need for the “developed countries or G7 to consider the interest of developing countries in their plan to prevent a worldwide economic meltdown.”
She also called on ASEAN leaders to come up with common actions in order to prepare for any contingencies that may happen in ASEAN.
The president also proposed that member countries of ASEAN plus 3 to convene and discuss on the impact of the global crisis.
ASEAN +3 is composed of ASEAN regional member countries Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam and ASEN’s three neighboring countries — China, Japan and Korea. (PIA/Bohol)

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will address some 200 local executives attending the LGU Conference for Sustained Competitiveness.
The conference highlights the 17th anniversary celebration of the signing of the 1991 Local Government Code.
It aims to stress the important role of local government units (LGUs) in enhancing the country’s global competitiveness.
The conference also serves as an opportunity for LGU officials to meet prospective private sector investors in their respective jurisdictions.
Other objectives include: identify critical components of competitiveness; international and local best practices in attaining competitiveness; investments opportunities in four priority sectors, namely, agriculture, mining, outsourcing and offshoring, and tourism; accelerate local economic development through enhanced competitiveness; among others.

Government troops will enjoy their sleep in field.
Lt Col Agane Adriatico, spokesperson of the 1st Infantry (Tabak) Division of the Philippine Army, said that three army trucks loaded with sleeping bags have arrived courtesy of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
President Arroyo earlier promised that she will provide sleeping bags to each soldiers involved in the law enforcement operation against the lawless MILF leaders Ameril Umbrakato and Abdullah Macapaar alias Commander Bravo and their followers.
Each soldier will also receive P300 worth of cellphone load from the President, Adriatico added.
The recent visit of President Arroyo boosted the morale of the soldiers in the field,” Adriatico added further. (PIA/Bohol)
