“Either they cooperate or they stand aside and let our law enforcers do their jobs,” matud pa ni Valte. (PIA-Bohol/ecb)

“We would like to state as a matter of fact that Malaysia is strictly a facilitator in the government’s peace talks with the MILF. We want to assure Senator Enrile that our government panel will not allow foreign intervention in the substantive issues between the two panels,” matud pa ni Valte. (PIA-Bohol/ecb)

“Wala namang problema (accounting). “It is government’s commitment to help in the development of future Bangsamoro leaders and managers who will utilize their political and socio-economic knowledge and skills to improve the situation in the Bangsamoro homeland,” matud pa ni Leonen.

“After this week’s negotiations, the government will undertake further consultations with the different stakeholders before going back to the negotiating table to craft with the MILF a final peace accord that will be acceptable to all and will mean more productive lives, greater opportunities, and regional harmony for families in conflict areas and the people of Mindanao,” matud pa sa kalihim.

“The government proposal is based on the results of extensive consultations of the GPH panel with the different stakeholders in the Mindanao peace process. It takes into consideration the welfare of the people, the country and the Bangsamoro and most importantly, the overwhelming humanitarian needs of Filipinos caught in never-ending conflict.” (PIA-Bohol/ecb)

Hoping that the Malaysian government would act to address the facilitator dispute,
government negotiators on Tuesday expressed optimism that peace negotiations with the
Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) will resume next month.

Atty. Marvic Leonen, chair of the government panel for the peace talks with the MILF, said
the third-party facilitator issue needs to be resolved first and they are confident that Malaysia
would address the concerns of both sides.

“We still remain optimistic that talks with the MILF will resume in January. We hope that the
MILF can share that optimism,” Leonen said in a statement.

The government had asked the Malaysian government to replace Datuk Othman bin Abd’
Razak as third-party facilitator because of his alleged pro-MILF bias.

“A politically negotiated settlement is needed at the soonest possible time so that the
energies of all can be channeled to addressing justice, lasting peace, sustainable
development and prosperity for all peoples in Mindanao,’ he continued.

He noted that administrative and security concerns are ongoing and they are prepared to
discuss these with MILF counterparts and vow to continue the series of consultations with
relevant sectors particularly the issues raised by the Moro rebels.

“We think that this is what negotiating in good faith means. It is also the better part of
prudence since issues taken out of context do contribute to environments which can only
foster more violence. We invite all concerned to help us address the problems in the spirit of
finding lasting solutions to a complex problem,” he added. (PIA/PCOO)

THE Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) announced Monday the members of its new panel that will continue peace negotiations with the Philippine government.

MILF secretariat chairman Muhammad Ameen said Mohagher Iqbal will remain chairman of the peace panel. He said other members, including lawyer Datu Michael Mastura and Maulana Bobby Alonto, were retained as members of the group, except Lanang Ali and Musib Buat due to health problems.

The MILF named Prof. Abhoud Syed Lingga, chairman of the Institute of Bangsamoro Studies; and Abdullah Camlian, chairman of the MILF technical committee, as new panel members.

Another peace panel member is Datu Antonio Kinoc of B’laan tribe from Columbio, Sultan Kudarat.

The MILF deactivated its peace panel in June 23 following its last meeting with its government counterpart under the administration of then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The MILF said it reconstituted its peace negotiating panel Sunday, after its central committee held a meeting mainly to discuss this agenda. (PIA)

Malaysia remains the third party facilitator at the resumption of peace negotiations between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) after the Holy Feast of Ramadan on Sept. 9.

In a news briefing in Malacanang, Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said the stalled peace talks with the MILF will definitely resume after the Ramadan as announced by President Benigno S. Aquino III in his State of the Nation Address last July.

“What we have right now and what we have been informed is that Malaysia is still the third party negotiator,” Lacierda said.

Concerned government officials he said, have been given a briefing on the peace process last week.

The President, according to him, has expressed determination to put an end to the decades-old conflict in southern Philippines and finally achieve a long-lasting peace for Muslim-Filipinos.

Peace talks between the Philippine Government and the MILF were stalled since August 2008 following the aborted signing of the Memorandum of Agreement on Ancestral Domain (MOA-AD). (PCOO/PIA)

PEACE negotiations with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) will resume after Islam’s holy month of Ramadan.

In a news briefing, Presidential Spokesman Atty. Edwin Lacierda said President Benigno S. Aquino III is determined to pursue his programs for Mindanao, the most important of which is to end the decade-long hostilities in Southern Philippines.

Lacierda said the appointment of UP College of Law dean Marvic Leonen as chief negotiator in the peace talks with the secessionist rebels is a clear testament of the Aquino administration’s commitment to pursue the consultative peace process.

He said Leonen, together with Presidential Adviser for the Peace Process Secretary Teresita “Ging” Deles, will review past agreements and records of talks and documents entered by the previous administration with the MILF peace panel.

Covered by the review is the Memorandum of Agreement on Ancestral Domain (MOA-AD) with the MILF.

Lacierda also echoed the President’s statement that the present government is committed to a consultative peace process by appointing credible personalities that truly understand the country’s history, diverse cultures and aspirations to head the government peace panel. (PIA-Bohol)
